Improvements
The Urbana WRF began a new plant design and upgrade study in early 2006, despite having made very little capital investments over the previous 15 years. A construction offer by Dugan and Meyers was accepted by the City of Urbana after several years of design and planning. The oxidation ditch plant will have an average design flow of 4.5 MGD and a peak flow of 9.25 MGD, with an average design flow of 4.5 MGD and a peak flow of 9.25 MGD. Beginning in September 2013, work on the project began. By May of 2015, the great bulk of the new plant’s facilities were up and running.
The construction project was finished in late September of this year.
Urbana WRF began designing a Solids Handling Upgrade in late 2018, which will involve upgrades to the primary clarifier and secondary sludge pumping capabilities.

In addition, the City of Urbana administers and maintains a Septage Receiving Facility, which currently has 15 registered haulers on the books.
