How Much Does A Septic Tank Cost Near Baldwin, Michigan? (Question)

homeguide.com

  • A great guideline (I love general rules!) is that it will certainly cost between $125 and $250 (or even more) to have a septic system cleaned up in Baldwin, MI. Why the cost variation? Simple.

How much does it cost to put in a septic system in Michigan?

The average septic system cost ranges between $10,000 – $25,000. This includes everything from the average price of the tank (which is often thousands of gallons) to the cost of labor to install it.

How much does it cost to put in a well and septic system in Michigan?

The cost to put in a well and septic system ranges from $6,000 to $20,000 depending on the type of septic system, type of absorption field, size of the septic tank, and depth of well drilling required.

What is the most expensive part of a septic system?

The leach field is the most important part of a properly functioning septic system. It is also the most expensive part of the septic system cost. It is easy to damage and expensive to replace.

How much does an engineered septic system cost in Michigan?

Engineered Septic System The system can be built on a new drain field mound or next to a sand-filled box that can purify the wastewater before it reaches the water table. An engineered septic system can cost on average between $12,000 and $15,000.

What is the cheapest septic system?

Conventional septic system These conventional septic systems are usually the most affordable, with an average cost of around $3,000.

Can I install my own septic system in Michigan?

Homeowners are allowed to install their own septic system. All others must be licensed by District Health Department #10. Twenty-four hours prior to cover/back filling a septic system the owner/contractor must contact the local sanitarian to complete a final inspection.

How deep are water wells in Michigan?

Typically, well depths in Michigan range from 30 to 500 feet, but most residential wells are less than 200 feet deep.

What is the average cost to drill a well in Michigan?

Drilling a residential water well costs $25 to $65 per foot or $3,750 to $15,300 on average for a complete system and installation. Prices include the drilling, a pump, casing, wiring, and more.

How much does it cost to build a well in Michigan?

The costs of drilling a well depend on the soils/rock encountered, the size of the well, and its depth, but average about $3,000 – 4,000 assuming $20/foot for an 8″ well plus casing, grouting, pump, electrical, etc.

What is the alternative to a septic tank?

Mound systems work well as alternatives to septic tanks when the soil around your home or building is too dense or too shallow or when the water table is too high. Although they are more expensive and require more maintenance than conventional systems, mound systems are a common alternative.

How long do septic tanks last?

A septic system’s lifespan should be anywhere from 15 to 40 years. How long the system lasts depends on a number of factors, including construction material, soil acidity, water table, maintenance practices, and several others.

Can you have a septic tank without a leach field?

The waste from most septic tanks flows to a soakaway system or a drainage field. If your septic tank doesn’t have a drainage field or soakaway system, the waste water will instead flow through a sealed pipe and empty straight into a ditch or a local water course.

  • Les emerged from Jay’s septic tank. He discovered the tank, dug up the lid, repaired the pump, and refilled it with water. Very professional and well-versed in the field. Excellent customer service. Les is someone I would suggest to everyone. He is well-versed in his field and provides first-rate service. Jays is the only company I will ever use. Wayne E.
  • Wayne E. It was fantastic. He arrived earlier than expected. I took him to the location where it was. He takes the time to explain things to me. He had obtained a copy of the previous owner’s record. Extremely well-informed. He was excellent. Shelly M. Liberty Inspections was extremely thorough and went above and above the call of duty for her. I would highly recommend Liberty Home Inspections and would use them again if the opportunity presented itself. Bill and Drew came out to our house and were quite kind and informative, and they addressed all of our questions. We were provided a report that was really detailed. Weatherstone Property Inspections LLC is owned and operated by Nancy L. Tim was excellent! Extremely professional! I’m glad I decided to accompany them! It was a HUD house, and the staff was quite helpful! I’ll be recommending them to everyone I know! Septic Tank Cleaning by Sherri D. and Matt DeJonghe It is a pleasure to do business with DeJonghe Septic! Matt is not only an adept at what he does, but he is also extremely honest and has a strong work ethic to match. So, when he came to pump our septic today, we discovered that the lid had fractured since the previous pumping 50 years ago, which had been 50 years ago today. Theriser and lid were purchased by my wife and me after Matt recommended them, but we did not have the necessary expertise to install them ourselves. Matt returned to our house in the midst of a very hectic day, assisted us with installing the riser, and refused to accept any further payment for the second trip to our home! Their pumping fees are very fair, and Misty, who works in the office, is really accommodating. Normally, I don’t offer five-star evaluations, but this one is well-deserving of it. Weatherstone Property Inspections LLC is owned and operated by Keith C. Tim was extremely thorough during the inspection, making sure that no stone was left unturned. His report was easy to read and understand. I would employ them again in a heartbeat. Weatherstone Property Inspections LLC is owned and operated by Julie K. Corey did a terrific job on the project. He arrived on time and was kind and professional. He was really patient with us and addressed all of our questions. He went over each stage of the procedure in great detail. We could have saved a little money if we had gone with an other firm, but I seriously doubt that anybody else would have done such an excellent job as he did. A detailed and thorough examination was requested before purchasing this house, which we were provided with. We would highly suggest this organization to anyone who is searching for a high-quality home inspection service. Vicky L

As a general rule, you should pump your Michigan tank once every 1-3 years, depending on the number of people that live in your house under typical circumstances.

In most cases, this pumping will take around 30-45 minutes. If you are aware of the position of your septic system, you may be able to save money in the long run since your Baldwin MI specialist will not be required to charge you for the time it takes to identify it.

Size of tank

Smaller tanks, of course, are less expensive to maintain, albeit they may require cleaning more frequently. Larger tanks necessitate the use of additional manpower and, in certain cases, machines to dig up and pump the tank.

Replacing common parts

It is possible that you may require parts to be changed, such as a filter, which might cost several hundred dollars. This filter, on the other hand, is essential in order to keep your Baldwin drainfield operating well and for a long time.

Soil fracturing

Your specialist may be able to resuscitate your tank by correctly pumping it, cleaning the drain field lines, replacing filters, and performing a procedure known as fracturing the soil, which includes putting a hollow tube into the ground and delivering a 300-pound burst of air into the earth. However, even though this technique might cost into the thousands dollars, it is far less expensive and much less bother than building a new system, particularly in Baldwin Michigan.

Keeping it clean

You are well aware that your septic tank will only function properly if the bacteria in it are both healthy and voracious. As soon as they become unwell or die, your septic tank will begin to discharge undigested waste into the drain field, where it will quickly become clogged. The following are some “strange” factors that might cause your septic tank to fail:

  • Chemotherapy drugs
  • Anti-bacterial hand washing soap
  • Toilet bowl cleaners
  • Bath and body oils
  • Dishwashers
  • Water softeners
  • Time-release pills and capsules
  • Anti-bacterial

Tip

Once your septic tank has been uncovered, photograph it and draw a sketch of its location in relation to your home. This information can help you save money in the long run, and it may come in handy if your tank requires more servicing in the future.

I live on the West Coast right now but I’m looking (online for now) at lots in Lake County near Baldwin. My plan is to start with an RV and maybe in the future put in a mobile home or house. I want to spend my summers in Michigan and go south for the winter.I’ve learned that the soil in this area is very sandy (8+ feet down) and drains really fast, which made me wonder about a few things:

  • In deep sand, are wells more or less expensive? Is there a problem with septic tanks leaching into the incorrect location because of the rapid drainage? Is septic tank maintenance less expensive or more expensive in deep sand

In addition, I assume that gravel roads would be a problem since the sand would engulf the gravel and trap it.

  • What happens when people just keep tossing more stones on top of each other until they give up? Is there a better solution?

I hope the solution isn’t blacktop because I don’t like blacktop (not to mention that I can’t afford it).I won’t be buying land through a realtor in order to save money so I won’t have one around to help me with these questions. Besides, in my experience realtors often don’t know about this kind of thing anyway. I will talk to tradespeople, of course, but the more advice I can get the better, especially for a real estate purchase. And this way I’ll have a better idea if the tradespeople know what they’re talking about or not.

I can’t specifically answer your well or septic questions, but I think the sand is generally better for a home site than heavy/clay soils.I think it actually provides a nice base for the driveway and it helps water drain quickly away from the foundation. It’s not going to be unstable like beach sand, if that’s what you’re thinking of.One of the downsides will be that grass doesn’t grow very well or stay green in the summer.

I forgot to ask if anybody knows about contractors to use or avoid.Quote:Originally Posted bymichigan83I can’t specifically answer your well or septic questions, but I think the sand is generally better for a home site than heavy/clay soils.I think it actually provides a nice base for the driveway and it helps water drain quickly away from the foundation. It’s not going to be unstable like beach sand, if that’s what you’re thinking of.One of the downsides will be that grass doesn’t grow very well or stay green in the summer.Yes, I imagined the soil was like beach sand.

Glad to hear it’s not like that!

I’ll just have to look into drought resistant plants.

An excuse to indulge in my gardening habit.

Sand can be quite stable.I have a cottage in northern Michigan which likely has very similar soil conditions to Lake County. We have never even put gravel on our driveway as the firm sand supports the cars quite well.In fact, most of the cottages in my area don’t have “improved” driveways. Many of the year-round residents, however, seem to choose to do so.As far as septic issues, the main concern is to have a safe distance between the septic field and the well.If there are a number of residences nearby, there is also concern about the location of their septic fields.Whereas many wells used to be shallow wells, nowadays most are drilled deeper in order maintain separation.

Ours was drilled to a depth of around 70+ feet. You’ll need to check with the local well drillers, but in my area there was a thick layer of clay which separated the top and bottom layers of sand.As far as the cost for drilling wells, I’m not sure if there’s much difference between sand or other soil conditions.I just know that it’s much easier to put a shallow well into sand as I’ve installed a couple of them myself (12-16′).Sand is definitely preferable for drain fields but, as I mentioned, you do need to keep a safe distance between your septic and your well. There is most likely a local ordinance which requires a minimum distance, and the local well drillers will be your best resource.P.S.If your intent is to eventually build a house, you might be better off simply buying a house to begin with, or waiting until you’re ready to buy. From a cost perspective, that may be the cheaper way to go.You can find some reasonably priced places in northern Michigan.

Looks like I don’t need to worry about the driveway. That’s good news. I talked to a well driller today and found out wells are being drilled pretty deep in that area these days, around the 5-10,000 ft range, so that’s not so good. I’ll talk to a couple more drillers but it seems unlikely the first one was off very far. Of course the cost will vary from one property to the next, but this is completely out of my budget range.Quote:Originally Posted byjackmichiganP.S.If your intent is to eventually build a house, you might be better off simply buying a house to begin with, or waiting until you’re ready to buy. From a cost perspective, that may be the cheaper way to go.You can find some reasonably priced places in northern Michigan. It might be cheaper, but it’s still out of my budget range.I’m not giving up yet, but I’m feeling a bit stumped.

I want to live independently and within my means but it’s tough on a budget like mine.

I know some people just put an RV on a lot in Lake County and call it good, but you can run into trouble with the authorities doing it that way. I keep my place neat and clean but it’s possible a neighbor might complain anyway.

I’m bad with numbers and I had no idea that 10,000 ft. was close to two mile. I thought I wrote the numbers down right but I must have goofed. Guess I’m REALLY BAD with numbers! Well, there’s your laugh for the day!

According to Michigan’s Water Well Manual, published in March 2019, most residential water wells are less than 200 feet deep.In the section near where I live, wells range from 57 to 187 feet deep.I was surprised that there was a well that was that deep-most seem to be around 100 feet deep. The state has a searchable data base to find well records. If you know the County, Township and Section, you can find the depth of many water wells.MDEQ Well Record Retrieval System
