It is necessary to obtain an annual permit in order to operate a public swimming pool, hot tub, or wading pool. Before an operating permission may be given, an application must be submitted to the Environmental Health Services Office along with the appropriate fee. The permission must be renewed on an annual basis. Pools are divided into two categories: year-round pools and seasonal pools. The inspection of year-round pools by our Environmental Health Specialists is required twice a year, and they are only authorized from January 1 through December 31 of each year.
Seasonal pools are subject to one examination by our Environmental Health Specialists over the course of the operation season.

All private sewage systems must be subjected to an on-going inspection procedure in order to comply with State legislation and the County Sanitation Ordinance, among other criteria. EH Section investigates and provides technical assistance to private physicians, veterinarians, hospital emergency rooms, and local animal control shelters in accordance with O.C.G.A. 31-19 and the Department of Human Resources Rules 290-5-2, as well as the Rabies Control Law and the Department of Human Resources Rules 290-5-2. The Environmental Health department works closely with the Georgia Public Health Laboratory to organize specimen testing.
