Local building code and/or engineer dictates the maximum allowable depth, usually at about 3 feet to the top of the chamber. The manufacturer does not address maximum engineering depth other than to suggest no more than 8 feet to the top of the chamber.

In bed systems, the maximum cover is 48 inches. If the drainfield is located in a non-traffic area, minimum cover can be reduced to six inches.
How does a 1000 gallon septic tank work?
An average size is approximately 1000 gallons to 1500 gallons in capacity. Most septic tanks have one or two compartments. The inlet baffle forces the wastewater from the sewer line down into the tank instead of across the surface of the tank and into the outlet pipe leading to the absorption area.
Can you have a septic tank without a leach field?
The waste from most septic tanks flows to a soakaway system or a drainage field. If your septic tank doesn’t have a drainage field or soakaway system, the waste water will instead flow through a sealed pipe and empty straight into a ditch or a local water course.
Is a plastic septic tank better than concrete?
Plastic septic tanks are watertight and are immune to water-based corrosion. They are also rust-resistant. Plastic tanks are less prone to cracking since plastic is flexible, and thus a plastic septic tank does not crack as much as a cement septic tank. Plastic septic tanks are more hygienic than cement tanks.
How big of a septic tank do I need?
The larger your home, the larger the septic tank you’re going to need. For instance, a house smaller than 1,500 square feet usually requires a 750 to 1,000-gallon tank. On the other hand, a bigger home of approximately 2,500 square feet will need a bigger tank, more than the 1,000-gallon range.
How long do plastic septic tanks last?
A septic tank can last between 20 and 40 years. The lifespan depends on the tank’s material. A steel tank lasts 20 years, while a concrete tank lasts 40 years. Plastic tanks can last as long as 30 years.
